Although emails may feel outdated due to new digital marketing tools like social media, email marketing is as strong as ever. According to HubSpot, 99% of people check their email every day”.

With a statistic like that, you may wonder why it seems like email marketing is outdated. The simple answer is that it is not the delivery of the email itself, but the content of the email that may be the problem for some businesses.

Here’s 5 tips on how you can improve your email marketing and the content you are sending out:

1. Give Value to Your Emails

Giving value to your emails is important as you want to make sure people always open your emails when they see them in their inbox. You can give them value by adding in facts and tips that they can use, or adding in coupons or offers only for email subscribers. Giving your emails value will make people excited to open your emails, even when you are trying to sell them something.

2. Make them Fun and Personalized

No one is interested in formal emails these days; instead they want fun and personalized emails. One way you can make them fun and personalized is through the subject line. The subject line is super important as it is the first impression of your email. Adding an emoji to your subject line can make the email feel more fun. You can also make the subject line interesting by asking a question for your subscribers to think about, which in turn will make them open your email. In the email itself you can add GIFs, videos, and lots of color to make your email stand out from the rest, as well as be fun and interactive.

3. Make sure Your Emails are Mobile Friendly

Having mobile friendly emails is just as important as making sure it looks good on desktop, as the largest number of people check their email through Apple’s iPhone mail app, with Gmail in second place. Not only that, but a survey about what people first check for each day shows that 58% of people check their email first, before social media and the news. And those 58% of people checking their email as their first check of the day probably mean they are doing it from their bed. If emails are not mobile friendly they will be unappealing to those opening your email on mobile devices, which may cause them to unsubscribe to your emails. Make sure you check how your emails will look on mobile before sending them out.

4. Send the Right Amount of Emails

Out of the top 3 reasons people unsubscribe to emails, 59% said it was because they were receiving too many emails. This means that you have to send your emails at the right time and with plenty of time apart so that your subscribers don’t feel they are getting too many emails from you and get annoyed. It is always important to remember that they have the power to get rid of any emails they feel are cluttering their inbox.

5. Don’t be Scammy

Using sleazy or scammy tactics won’t get you far, as people today want respect and honesty when it comes to the businesses they like. By leaving sleazy and scammy tactics out, you can gain customers who will be loyal to your business and will trust you. People will quickly turn on you if they believe they aren’t getting a fair deal or are being used, so be honest and respect your customers.

By making these 5 changes to your email marketing strategy you will find that emails continue to be a powerful tool when it comes to your digital marketing.
