What is Video Production?

Innovative, magical, and longevity are the words that should come to mind when creating videos. Video Production is the art and service of creating content as a finished video product. Videography, animation, and even motion graphics are all considered to be forms of video-production that can be used for TV, internet, or corporate usage. With even just a hint of creativity in mind, video production can turn a simple video into something unique and interesting. It should be all about perspective, anticipation, and most importantly story-telling.

Pre-Production

Before diving into the meats and potatoes of video-editing, you should first have an understanding of what it is you are trying to convey with your topic. For example, you could be wanting to review and / or sell a product, tell a story, or inform people about an upcoming event. It is important to make sure your topic is crystal clear to your audience so they can better interact with it.

Once you have your topic covered, begin writing a script to get your point across - this is where the fun begins! Integrating your personality and your enthusiasm for your topic will determine how intrigued and interested your audience will be. For instance, if you are very outgoing and quite cheerful in the way that you express yourself and your topic, then your audience will surely perceive you and your topic in that way. Personality and enthusiasm are key attributes to making your video take off in the way that you want it to.

Post-Production

In addition to adding personality to your scripts, the way that your video is edited will also be a key role in emphasizing who you are and what you are trying to convey. This can be done through adding unique transitions, music, typography, motion graphics, and even correlating footage in the editing phase of your video. Say you are trying to advertise an upcoming camping trip and the many fun events that will be held. While speaking about these events in your video, it would be great to display corresponding footage of people camping or partaking in the event while in the editing phase. This will give the audience an idea of what it is they will get into before making a decision.

One thing to note is that not all videos require those attributes in order for it to kick-off. In some cases, a video’s success is not based on what music you use, the length, or how appealing it looks. It’s more about the emotion and action that is generated from the video.

Video production can take quite a while to master as there is a lot that goes into it. From the type of cameras you can use, the many types of camera shots to learn, even narrowing down to sound design. There are even several types of video editing softwares out there that are meant for tackling small and big projects. Depending on how long and how frequently you wish to produce videos, it wouldn’t hurt to dive more into the different types of cameras, shots, and softwares that can be used. Learning these as time goes on will strengthen your ability as both a video creator and a video editor.
